Jack Durant left his home in Tennessee to become a major league basebal pitcher. Instead he became the most trusted friend of the infamous gangster, Bugsy Siegel. He then created one of the best known restaurants in Arizona. Though he died in 1987 stories are still being told about him. Jack's World shares those stories. (G)

FRANK TREJO
Frank Trejo's unique sense of humor entertains the reader as he tells of growing up in the poverty of a Phoenix, Arizona barrio. But Frank had dreams, and with a broomstick and bottlecaps he escaped to become one of the most feared hitters in softball. Frank's life story, Going Around 3rd Base in Life and Headed Home, is proof that no matter how poor the circumstances, dreams can come true. (PG17)
MABEL LEO
Ask Mabel Leo her favorite childhood memories and she'll say the few years living with her grandmother. They lived in a tiny town where everyone knew each other; where children ran free without fear, minds full of only having fun. That was when she began dreaming up little stories, some of which are in this book, "Friends." (G)
